Biography

Charis Voutsina has taught in primary schools and early years settings in Greece and England. She holds a degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Patras, Greece, and a postgraduate degree (Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies) in Systems Learning and Systems Evaluation from the University of Aix-Marseille, France. Charis completed her PhD in Mathematics Education at the University of Southampton. She was awarded an ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship, which allowed her to further extend her PhD research on young children's problem solving approaches in mathematics, focusing on the processes of procedural and conceptual change that underpin the development of children's problem-solving strategies. Her research interests include Mathematics Learning, Early Years Education, Teacher Education, and Family Engagement in mathematics learning. Charis employs qualitative methods in her research, including case studies, microgenetic research, and longitudinal qualitative studies, having supervised more than 10 doctoral research projects to successful completion.
