Professor Dr. Charlotte Desvages

Biography

Charlotte Desvages is a Lecturer at the School of Mathematics, University of Edinburgh, where she teaches courses in Mathematical Computing. Her teaching focuses on developing students' Python programming skills and introductory numerical methods. Charlotte's research interests include peer learning in programming through methods such as pair programming, code review, and live coding, as well as fostering computational thinking that integrates with mathematical reasoning. She is also dedicated to implementing accessible and inclusive teaching practices. Additionally, Charlotte serves as the director of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion within her school. She obtained her PhD from the University of Edinburgh's Acoustics Audio Group, where she explored numerical methods for physical modeling of stringed instruments and their application in sound synthesis.
