Christopher Charles is an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba in the Faculty of Education, having joined the faculty on July 12, 2021. He began his teaching career in 1990 in Dominica, where he spent 20 years teaching mathematics and physics in secondary schools. During those years, he served in various capacities including Acting Principal, Deputy Principal, and Head Mathematics Departments. In 2010, he was appointed by the Ministry of Education in Dominica as a Numeracy Specialist, a role he held for several years. As a graduate student from 2016 to 2020, he taught mathematics education to pre-service teachers at the University of Alberta. In 2020/2021, he worked as a curriculum developer, creating resources to assist teachers in incorporating Indigenous perspectives into mathematics education. Charles co-authored a book chapter with Dr. Florence Glanfield titled 'Mathematics Teacher Education Canada: Emerging Possibilities Engaging Indigenous Perspectives' published in 'International Perspectives Mathematics Teacher Education.' His research has appeared in various publications including the Journal Mathematics Council Alberta Teacher Association and the Caribbean Education Research Journal. He is currently a member of the Editorial Board for CERJ.
