Dr. Cinthia Salinas

Biography

Cinthia Salinas is a Regents Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research centers on social studies education, particularly critical historical inquiry, and focuses on bilingual education, elementary and secondary education for late-arrival immigrant students, and their experiences in ESL classroom settings. She has published extensively on the narratives and agency of social studies teachers and their classrooms. Salinas is a member of multiple editorial boards and has served in various roles within educational organizations, showcasing her commitment to enhancing the quality of education and research in her field. Salinas has contributed to numerous publications analyzing teaching practices and curriculum narratives, particularly pertaining to the experiences of Latina/o students. She is an active participant in the educational community and has received several awards for her excellence in teaching and research, including the Regents' Outstanding Teacher Award and the Elizabeth Shatto Massey Award for Excellence in Teacher Education. Salinas’s work consistently aims to understand and improve the dynamics of historical inquiry and citizenship education in a multicultural context.
