Biography

Colleen Richardson is an Associate Professor and Director of the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band at the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University. She teaches conducting and instrumental ensemble pedagogy and coordinates various bands. Her directing of the Wind Ensemble has led to multiple CD productions. She co-supervises the Western Young Winds Program, which offers real-world teaching experience to undergraduate music students while providing enrichment to local middle school students. Due to its popularity, the program has expanded to include high school students as well. An active clinician and adjudicator, Richardson has judged international contests in Spain, the Netherlands, and New York. From 2022-2024, she served as the first female President of WASBE, leading the Artistic Planning Committee for the upcoming conference in Gwangju, South Korea. She has received the Canadian Band Association's “International Band Award” for significant contributions to the international band movement and has been a repeat presenter at notable clinics. Richardson completed her music education degree at Brandon University and furthered her studies with degrees in conducting from the University of Calgary and the University of Cincinnati. She has held various academic appointments before joining Western University in 2006.
