Biography

Cristina Abbona-Sneider received her Laurea in Letters with honors from the University of Torino in Italy in 1998 and completed her PhD at Brown University in 2004. After teaching at the University of Pennsylvania, she returned to Brown University in 2006. Currently, she serves as the Director of Italian Language Studies, coordinating and administering the Italian Language Program, and supervises graduate teaching assistants. Cristina is also the Departmental Undergraduate Supervisor and an on-campus advisor for the Brown-in-Bologna Program, along with being the Faculty Advisor for the Italian Club. Her specialization lies in constructivist curriculum design, digital pedagogy, and alternative assessment, with a current focus on revising the language curriculum to enhance intercultural competence. She is a co-author of "Trame: Contemporary Italian Reader" published by Yale University Press in 2009 and is currently working on an interactive e-textbook for the learning platform Top Hat. Cristina has received several accolades, including the John Rowe Workman Award for Teaching Excellence in the Humanities from 2011 to 2013 and the Teaching with Technology Award at Brown University in 2009.
