Biography

Cynthia J. Cranford is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto. Her research analyzes inequalities related to gender, labor migration, and collective efforts to resist these inequalities using qualitative case studies of care work. Recently, her work has compared the social organization of publicly funded home care for aging and disabled individuals in Toronto and Los Angeles. She is currently studying the growth of private-paid home care in Toronto. In addition to her research, Cynthia is a public sociologist with a commitment to connecting and building bridges between academia and advocacy, and she serves as the Co-chair of the Carework Network.
