Dr. David Krackhardt

Biography

David M. Krackhardt is a Professor of Organizations at Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy, with a joint appointment at the Tepper School of Business. Over the past 15 years, his research has focused on providing theoretical insights and methodological innovations in network analysis to enhance the understanding of organizational functions. He pioneered the concept of 'cognitive social structures,' wherein individuals provide perceptions of the entire network they are embedded in. His empirical work has related perceived structures to turnover, reputation, and power within organizations, and he is interested in developing methodologies for understanding networks and their implications.
