Biography

Eider Etxebarria is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese at Northwestern University. Raised in the Basque Country, Etxebarria earned a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a focus on Spanish Linguistics. His research, funded by the National Science Foundation, examines the linguistic practices within parental, educational, and communal contexts to support the dual language development of bilingual children and to preserve endangered minoritized languages. With over a decade of teaching experience, he has instructed courses in both Spanish and Basque at multiple universities, including the University of Illinois and the University of Deusto. Currently, he coordinates Spanish 101 (Elementary Spanish) and teaches a variety of courses in Spanish, emphasizing practical, communicative strategies that can be utilized in personal and professional contexts.
