Biography

Eliane Segers studied Language, Speech Computer Sciences (MA) and Cognitive Science (MSc) at Radboud University, Nijmegen. She received her PhD in Social Sciences in 2003 for her work on 'Multimedia support for early literacy learning.' Currently, she is a full professor at the Behavioural Science Institute (BSI) at Radboud University, where she holds the chair in Learning & Technology. From 2016 to 2022, she served as a professor in Reading Digital Media at the University of Twente, leading a chair funded by the Reading Foundation in Amsterdam. Eliane is the scientific director at the Expertisecentrum Nederlands and program leader for the Pedagogical-Didactic line NOLAI. Her research focuses on individual variation in learning and learning problems, with a specific interest in using information and communication technology (ICT) to enhance learning. She has (co-)developed educational games that emphasize emergent literacy, reading fluency, and scientific thinking during museum visits. Eliane’s extensive research theme at the Behavioural Science Institute includes Development Learning and Learning & Plasticity, addressing issues such as digital comprehension and the challenges faced by children as digital natives.
