Biography

Elisabeth Nilsson holds a PhD in language teaching and learning, with a teaching focus primarily centered on early literacy and teacher education courses. She serves as a university lecturer within the Section of Language Teaching and Learning at Umeå University, where she teaches special education teacher programs and independent teacher education courses. Nilsson is responsible for courses related to Meänkieli Sami preschool staff and works on behalf of the Swedish National Agency for Education. Her research interests mainly focus on teachers’ language assessments in early childhood education, particularly the assessments that are conducted, interpreted, and the subsequent actions taken based on these assessments. Nilsson's background as a licensed speech-language pathologist informs her understanding of language assessment practices, which she has explored through her doctoral project. This project provided the opportunity to contribute to the body of knowledge regarding teachers’ language assessment practices in preschool classes and their approaches to linguistic diversity.
