Biography

Elissavet Amanatidou is a Teaching Professor in the Classics Department and the Director of Modern Greek Studies at Brown University. She has a diverse educational background, holding degrees from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of East Anglia, and King’s College London. Since joining the Brown Classics Department in 2001, Amanatidou has worked as a language expert, teacher, and teacher trainer in Greece and the UK. She previously held a concurrent appointment as Senior Lecturer in Modern Greek and served as the Director of the Center for Language Studies at Brown from 2008 to 2014. Additionally, she has experience as a chief examiner for national and international examinations in Modern Greek, as well as being an associate with the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors. Her research interests encompass testing and evaluation, curriculum development, the integration of literature and the arts into foreign language curricula, multiliteracies, and inclusive pedagogies. Amanatidou has also been instrumental in developing courses and training materials, notably contributing to projects that enhance language development and incorporate cultural narratives into language instruction. Furthermore, she has been actively involved in the Modern Greek Studies Association and has held leadership positions aimed at advancing undergraduate studies in the field.
