Dr. Elizabeth Wonnacott

Biography

Elizabeth Wonnacott is a Professor of Language Science in the Department of Education at the University of Oxford. Prior to her current role, she served as an Associate Professor in the Division of Language Sciences at University College London, as well as an Assistant Professor in Psychology at the University of Warwick. Wonnacott also held a Junior Research Fellowship at the University of Oxford, where she was associated with the Department of Experimental Psychology and Linacre College. She obtained her degrees in Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence (MA Hons) from the University of Edinburgh and her MSc and PhD in Brain and Cognitive Sciences from the University of Rochester in the USA. Her research primarily focuses on human language learning and the mechanisms underpinning it, particularly statistical learning processes and their educational implications for language instruction. She is particularly interested in how language learning occurs in both naturalistic and context-limited environments. Wonnacott also explores the development of literacy and language processing in various educational settings.
