Biography

Emilie Claire Vansant is an early-career interdisciplinary scientist at the University of Copenhagen specializing in land use, agriculture, and food security studies. Originally from Vermont, USA, she has worked with and learned from rural communities in India, Guatemala, Malaysia, Norway, France, and Malawi. Through her experiences, she has developed a strong capacity to holistically address agrifood system challenges, employing a research approach that emphasizes cross-disciplinary collaboration and active engagement with local actors. Currently, as a postdoctoral researcher, she focuses on tree-based farming practices and their impact on dietary quality in Malawi. Her current project involves collaborating with rural communities and local organizations to co-design tools that support tree-planting initiatives aimed at enhancing nutrition, particularly through the use of indigenous fruit tree species. This project is funded by a European Research Council Proof of Concept grant, with Dr. Laura Vang Rasmussen as the principal investigator.
