Biography

Emma Geller is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of California, San Diego. She received her Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2016. Dr. Geller's primary research interest lies in science learning and instruction, focusing on how students develop deep understanding of concepts in math and science. Her research investigates critical questions such as the types of questions that facilitate learning, the role of surprise and confusion in addressing students' misconceptions, and how engagement and cognitive load interact to support or hinder effective learning through videos. At UCSD, she is passionate about fostering excitement in learning and instruction within the classroom. Dr. Geller teaches research methods courses and is committed to helping students develop a profound understanding of core concepts related to psychological research methods and statistics.
