Biography

Erica Caasi is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Language & Literacy Education Department at Boston University’s Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. She prepares future educators and partners with practicing teachers and schools to support culturally responsive, community-engaged literacy practices. Her scholarly work delves into representation in literature for youth, exploring narrative function and the medium of connection. Furthermore, her contributions include research in multi-year partnerships focused on teacher-centered professional development. In her earlier teaching career, Caasi taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades in the Bay Area, Maryland/DC region, and the Denver metropolitan area. Beyond academia, she is a competitive powerlifter and youth sports coach who advocates for physical fitness and well-being among young people.
