Biography

Fred Paas is a Professor and chair of the research group in Educational Developmental Psychology at the Department of Psychology, Education, and Child Studies at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He is a Professorial Fellow at the School of Education/Early Start, University of Wollongong in Australia. His research focuses on cognitive load theory, investigating instructional control and cognitive load training for complex cognitive tasks. His recent interests include the effect of the physical environment on cognition and learning, evolutionary approaches to cognitive load learning, and the influence of physical activities on cognition and learning. In recognition of his contributions, he was acknowledged as one of the world's most productive authors in educational psychology journals from 2009-2014. He serves as the editor-in-chief of Educational Psychology Review and is part of the editorial board for the Journal of Educational Psychology. Paas is a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association, with significant public engagement through lectures and consultancy roles for organizations such as Tinqwise.
