Biography

Garine Papazian-Zohrabian is a full professor at the Department of Psychopedagogy and Andragogy at Université de Montréal. She serves as the scientific director of the interdisciplinary research team on refugee and asylum-seeking families. An accomplished researcher, she is affiliated with SHERPA (Research, Immigration, and Society) and is a licensed psychologist and psychotherapist in Quebec. Originally from Lebanon, she worked with Médecins Sans Frontières in Armenia and pursued a PhD in clinical psychology focusing on the psychic traumas of war among children in Nagorno-Karabakh. Since 2010, she has been based in Quebec, where her work encompasses child development, adaptation, learning challenges, and the impacts of migration on youth mental health. Her research has contributed to understanding resilience among young populations, and she actively promotes new educational practices to support immigrant students. She has directed the Lebanese Institute for Educators and has instructed at the Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth before moving to Canada. Her projects funded by SSHRC focus on the pre, peri, and post-migratory experiences of immigrants, with a strong emphasis on promoting psychological well-being in educational settings.
