Gloriana González's research focuses on problem-based instruction in mathematics classrooms, emphasizing teachers' decision-making and their handling of students' prior knowledge in problem-based lessons. She is currently investigating teachers’ perspectives using visual arts in the context of geometry instruction. González supports a CAREER grant from the National Science Foundation and has led projects that created professional development models integrating animations and video clubs with the Lesson Study cycle to enhance teacher learning. With experience as a middle and high school mathematics teacher in both Massachusetts and Puerto Rico, she has served on the editorial panel of Mathematics Teacher Educator and chaired the panel from 2018 to 2019. Her research has been recognized with the Mid-Career Award from the American Educational Research Association's Division K. González holds a PhD in Educational Studies from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and is currently a professor in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where she collaborates with the Siebel Center for Design and the Center for Social and Behavioral Science.
