Biography

Haimanti Banerjee joined the Penn community in 1995, enrolling in the Graduate School of Education for her degree in language pedagogy and obtaining a PA certification for elementary education. Prior to coming to Penn, she received an MPhil in English literature from Delhi University. Since 1995, Haimanti has been teaching Bengali and has also taught Hindi and English. In her role as Associate Director of Language Culture Programs at the Joseph H. Lauder Institute of Management & International Studies, she collaborates with faculty and students to promote effective language learning and coordinates nine language programs alongside the institute’s summer immersion programs. She is an ACTFL/ILR certified tester-rater and has received federal grants for language projects in Bengali and Hindi, including a multi-year International Research Studies grant and a STARTALK grant. Haimanti has also been awarded the Staff Incentive Award from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Arts and Sciences. Her primary areas of interest include language pedagogy, assessment, and materials development.
