Dr. Hector Vazquez Cordoba

Biography

Hector Vazquez-Cordoba is an Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of Victoria, specializing in Curriculum Instruction and Indigenous Education. He holds a PhD in Educational Studies from the University of Victoria, a Master’s in Education focusing on Teaching and Learning Processes from Tecnológico de Monterrey, and a Bachelor’s in Music Performance from Universidad Veracruzana. His research interests include Indigenous ways of knowing, music education, and educational policy, emphasizing the need for decolonizing and indigenizing music education practices. Hector’s work often explores collaborations between teacher candidates and Indigenous culture bearers in both the Coast Salish Territory of Canada and the Huasteca region of Mexico. He has been recognized with research support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) for both his doctoral and postdoctoral research initiatives, which focus on integrating music with Indigenous perspectives within educational frameworks.
