Helen Wozniak has 30 years of experience as a clinician (orthoptist) and an innovative educator, joining ANU in April 2024 as Head of Assessment. Her expertise has allowed her to build a career that spans clinical practice in rural and urban settings, fueled by her passion for learning and mentorship from the late Professor Fred Hollows. In higher education, she has held roles in lecturing and reforming orthoptics curriculum, and leading e-learning projects across five health facilities at the University of Sydney before moving to lead academic development at Charles Darwin University. Helen has also worked with medical schools, including the University of Sydney, Flinders University, and the University of Queensland, inspiring educators to enhance clinical skills teaching and developing clinical supervisors in Northern Australia. She has led the assessment design for the new Doctor of Medicine program at the University of Queensland and has received multiple teaching and learning awards from the University of Sydney and Flinders University, as well as the Australian Awards for University Teaching in 2017 for her outstanding contributions to student learning. Currently, she is completing a Teaching Innovation Grant at the University of Queensland to enhance learner engagement in workplace-based learning assessment.
