Biography

Jane Sokolosky is a Teaching Professor in the Department of German Studies at Brown University. She received her PhD in Germanic Language Literatures from Washington University in St. Louis and has been at Brown since 1998. She is a co-author of the second-year German language textbook 'Denk mal!' (4th Edition, 2024). Sokolosky was promoted to Distinguished Senior Lecturer and served as the Director of Brown's Center for Language Studies from 2018 to 2024. In this role, she coordinated programming for undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty to promote the teaching and learning of languages. Sokolosky teaches both beginning and intermediate German and mentors graduate student teaching assistants. Her research focuses on integration of language learning and intercultural competence, as well as language pedagogy and application of new technologies in language learning. She has presented at numerous conferences and received Brown's Teaching with Technology Award and the Sheridan Award for Teaching and Learning.
