Dr. Janet Branchaw

Biography

Janet L. Branchaw is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She serves as the Faculty Director of the Wisconsin Institute for Science Education and Community Engagement (WISCIENCE). Her research focuses on the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative approaches to science education at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Branchaw emphasizes research training and mentoring while assessing student learning and broadening participation in science. She teaches courses in physiology and college science teaching methods. Branchaw holds a Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has a strong background in science education research, particularly in the context of mentoring and student engagement. Her scholarship includes studies on educational interventions, curricular development for research training, and methods to enhance student outcomes in life sciences education. Janet is actively involved in presenting at national conferences, sharing insights on mentorship and assessment practices in undergraduate education, making her a leader in the field of science education.
