Jeannette Schaeffer is a linguist specializing in language acquisition among neurotypical and neurodivergent children, teenagers, and adults. She earned her Master’s degree from Utrecht University in 1990 and completed her PhD at UCLA in 1997, followed by a postdoctoral position at MIT in 1998. From 1998 to 2011, she worked as an Assistant and Associate Professor at Ben Gurion University in Israel and has been affiliated with the University of Amsterdam since 2011. Her research focuses on language acquisition in typically developing, monolingual children acquiring Dutch, English, Italian, Hebrew, Russian, and Mandarin. Schaeffer also explores multilingualism and language disorders, with a particular emphasis on Developmental Language Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
