Dr. Judith Rispens

Biography

Judith Rispens is a Professor of Dutch Linguistics in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam. Her research primarily focuses on language learning and the typical and disordered development of literacy. She has been actively involved in externally funded research projects, including the NRO grant initiatives aimed at measuring effective interventions in primary and secondary education, as well as projects examining the role of statistical learning in language acquisition and procedural learning in children with developmental dyslexia. Rispens has supervised numerous Ph.D. students, guiding their work on topics such as narrative ability, morphophonology acquisition, and the relationship between grammar and literacy in young learners. Her academic contributions also include serving as an associate editor for the journal Language Teaching and holding a rigorous academic background, having completed her MA in Speech and Language Therapy at the University of Reading. Through her work, Rispens aims to enhance understanding of language acquisition and its complexities, particularly in the context of children with language disorders.
