Dr. Julie Smith

Biography

Julie Smith is a Senior Lecturer in Development Psychology Education at the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh. Her educational background includes a BA (Hons) in Psychology from Edinburgh Napier University, a Master's in Applied Psychology (Children and Young People) from the University of Edinburgh, and a PhD in Psychology Learning from the University of Glasgow, focusing on children's verbal interactions and collaborative problem-solving in mathematics. Julie has held various teaching positions in universities and has practical experience working in mental health with children and young individuals. She is currently an honorary contract holder at NHS Lothian and has contributed to the field as a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her research interests include metacognition, learning in mathematics education, higher education student experience, and pedagogical approaches that enhance mental health and well-being. Julie supervises PhD students and has been involved in numerous consultancy and project grants aimed at improving student learning experiences in higher education.
