Biography

Karen Bilsland is a Lecturer in Organisational Behaviour at the Adam Smith Business School. A three-time graduate of the University of Glasgow, her academic background includes a PhD in Management, an MRes in Sociology Research Methods, and an MA Hons in Business Management Geography. Karen's research focuses on work organization, the materiality of organizational space, employee engagement and participation, and organizational change, applying visual methods in organizational studies. Her PhD research was a comparative study of work and spatial practices in a multinational retail firm in the UK and Sweden. Before re-joining the University of Glasgow in 2022, she held a lecturer position in Management at the University of Aberdeen since 2018. Karen has published in reputable journals such as New Technology, Work and Employment, European Management Journal, and Economic and Industrial Democracy. She has successfully secured research funding, including a full PhD scholarship in 2014 and co-investment in an interdisciplinary Knowledge Transfer Partnership project in 2020. Karen is an Academic Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (Academic MCIPD) and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (FCMI) and the Higher Education Academy. At the Business School, she serves as the CMI Accreditation Partnership Lead and is a member of the Board of the University's Workspace Futures 2030 Programme.
