Kathryn is a Lecturer in Teacher Education at the University of Glasgow's School of Education, joining in September 2025 as a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow. She is working on a project that focuses on playful and participatory approaches to enhance early career teacher mentoring. Her research explores the relationship between national education policies and the working lives and identities of early career teachers (ECTs). Kathryn adopts a granular approach to analyze the challenges faced by ECTs, opening new spaces to consider the demands placed on new teachers and their impacts on motivation and commitment. Prior to her PhD at the University of Worcester, Kathryn served as an Early Years teacher for five years in state-funded primary schools in England. She holds a PGCE in Early Years from the University of Cambridge and an MA in Early Years Education from the UCL Institute of Education. Additionally, Kathryn has worked at the Institute of Community Research and Development at the University of Wolverhampton, and in the Department for Education and Social Justice at the University of Birmingham. Her interdisciplinary research methods are primarily informed by corpus linguistics and sociology of education.
