Biography

Katrina (Ekaterina) Tour is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Monash University. Her research focuses on digital literacies for children and adults from refugee and migrant backgrounds. She investigates the ways in which these groups utilize digital technologies in learning English as an Additional Language (EAL) for life, learning, and employment. Her work aims to enhance educational policies and pedagogies in digital literacies within EAL/TESOL contexts both locally and internationally. Katrina's research projects in EAL contexts have explored innovative teaching and learning technologies, the digital literacies experiences of in-service and pre-service teachers, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on online teaching and leadership, and AI literacy within communities from Afghanistan, Myanmar, Ethiopia, Somalia, Vietnam, Iraq, and China. She has provided expert advice to the government on digital literacies for the EAL curriculum in schools and the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) sector. Notably, she led the development and implementation of the AMEP Digital Literacies Framework and Guide. Katrina started her educational career as a school teacher in Belarus before moving to Australia, where she taught English and Spanish in various primary and tertiary education contexts. Currently, she teaches the Faculty's teacher education programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and serves as the Course Leader for the Master of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MTESOL).
