Biography

Kiley Sobel is a Senior User Experience Researcher at Duolingo, focusing on language-learning technology for children. Her work primarily revolves around Duolingo ABC, Duolingo's free English literacy learning app designed for kids. Prior to her role at Duolingo, Kiley was associated with the Joan Ganz Cooney Center, an independent research and innovation lab hosted by Sesame Workshop, which is the organization behind Sesame Street. Throughout her career, Kiley has conducted extensive research related to children, families, co-design, collaborative play, learning, disability, and inclusion. She completed her PhD in Human Centered Design & Engineering at the University of Washington, where she was recognized as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. During her doctorate, she conducted research at Microsoft Research, with experiences in both Redmond, Washington, and Bangalore, India. Kiley holds a Bachelor of Science in Human-Computer Interaction from Harvey Mudd College.
