Biography

Kyle Mathewson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Alberta. He earned his PhD in 2011 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he focused on brain cognition in the Cognitive Neuroimaging Lab. He has previously worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Beckman Institute. Mathewson has a B.A. in Psychology with Honours from the University of Victoria, where he conducted research on cognitive control. His research interests lie in human psychophysiology, particularly attention and perception through the use of human behavioral studies, neuroimaging, and electrophysiological recording. He investigates basic processes of visual attention, including the oscillations of neural activity that relate to real-world tasks, such as driving video games. Mathewson is also exploring new technologies for non-invasively monitoring brain activity and physiology. He directs the Attention Perception and Performance Lab at the University of Alberta.
