Dr. Lilly Jan

Biography

Lilly Jan is a food beverage management academic, consultant, and chef with over 20 years of experience in the hospitality foodservice industry. She has a background in catering, events, and television production and is currently a faculty member at Cornell University’s Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration in Ithaca, New York. Jan teaches courses on food beverage management, food culture, foodservice facility design, and hospitality leadership. Her research interests encompass food culture, restaurant culture, and career opportunities for historically marginalized populations within the foodservice sector, focusing on education, training, inclusion, cultural competency, and workplace environments. An invited speaker at various executive education conferences and industry events, she discusses food and restaurant trends and how these relate to women, racial and ethnic minorities, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. In her prior role as director of culinary operations at Newbury College in Brookline, MA, she served as a faculty member and academic advisor, teaching a wide range of classes in culinary and hospitality management, including at Le Cordon Bleu Boston University.
