Dr. Lorena Llosa

Biography

Lorena Llosa is a Professor at New York University, specializing in Education, particularly in the Teaching and Learning department. She is a trained applied linguist whose research focuses on the teaching, learning, and assessment of multilingual learners in K-16 education contexts. Her work includes the development of standards-based classroom assessments aimed at measuring language proficiency and fostering academic writing. She has been involved as Co-PI in significant NSF-funded projects aiming to enhance science curricula and assessments that support English learners in their education. Dr. Llosa has published extensively in leading peer-reviewed journals such as Language Testing and the American Educational Research Journal, showcasing her commitment to advancing language education research. In 2019, she received the AERA Language Research SIG Mid-Career Award in recognition of her contributions to the field. Dr. Llosa also plays an active role in mentoring prospective doctoral students in NYU’s interdisciplinary training program, preparing them for careers as teachers and researchers in bilingual education.
