Biography

Lynn Dempsey is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Linguistics at Brock University and serves as the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies in the Faculty of Social Sciences. She completed her PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Western Ontario in 2005, where she also earned her M.Sc. in Communication Sciences Disorders (Speech-Language Pathology) in 1999 and a BA in Psychology from McMaster University in 1996. Registered as a Speech-Language Pathologist, Dempsey's research primarily centers on narrative comprehension in preschool-aged children with language impairments. Her work delves into the nature of young children's story representations, contributing factors to successful story comprehension, and the interplay between oral story comprehension and reading comprehension. Dempsey is the director of the Child Language Laboratory and a member of the LifeSpan Development Centre. She has authored 30 peer-reviewed presentations at various conferences, including the Symposium on Research in Child Language Disorders and the American Speech Language & Hearing Association Annual Convention. Her teaching portfolio covers courses such as Introduction to Psychology of Language and Child Language Acquisition.
