Biography

Dr. Lynn Dempsey is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Linguistics at Brock University and currently serves as the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies in the Faculty of Social Sciences. She completed her PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Western Ontario in 2005. Dr. Dempsey's research primarily focuses on narrative comprehension among preschool age children with language impairments. Her inquiries explore the nature of young children's story representations and the factors that contribute to successful story comprehension. Additionally, she investigates the relationship between early oral story comprehension and reading comprehension. Dr. Dempsey directs the Child Language Laboratory and is a member of the LifeSpan Development Centre. Her research interests also cover the development of English language narrative comprehension in children learning English as a subsequent language and the measurement of young children's language abilities, particularly in early story comprehension and comprehension monitoring skills. Over the years, Dr. Dempsey has presented over 30 peer-reviewed papers and posters at regional, national, and international conferences. At Brock University, she has taught various courses relevant to linguistics and language disorders, contributing significantly to the academic community.
