Dr. Makeba Jones

Biography

Makeba Jones is an Associate Teaching Professor at the University of California, San Diego, specializing in school reform, educational equity, and urban education. With 15 years of experience in design-based collaborations, she has worked closely with San Diego county teachers, students, principals, and district administrators on various school reform initiatives. Her expertise includes social cultural organization in schools, student engagement, tracking and ability grouping, educational policy, teacher professional development, school-university partnerships, and facilitating transitions from high school to college. Dr. Jones is particularly adept in conducting youth voice research projects aimed at educating school leaders on the educational equity perspectives of youth. She has authored numerous publications in educational leadership and change, focusing on multidimensional approaches to youth engagement in high schools. Her academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Education from the University of California, Los Angeles, and dual B.A. degrees in Anthropology and Sociology from the University of California, San Diego.
