Biography

Malin Ågren is a Senior Lecturer in French Studies at Lund University, specializing in Language Acquisition. Her research primarily focuses on second and foreign language acquisition, particularly how Swedish learners acquire spoken and written French. Ågren's Ph.D. thesis investigated the development of silent plural morphology in written L2 French among Swedish high school learners, revealing that the development of written morphology is both gradual and follows a developmental pattern akin to spoken language acquisition. In her postdoctoral research, she studied morphosyntactic development in young Swedish learners of French, comparing their linguistic development to simultaneous bilingual and monolingual learners. Currently, she is involved in an international project examining L2 acquisition of French verb morphology across various language backgrounds, as well as ongoing cooperation with Professor Jonas Granfeldt regarding language acquisition and teaching. Ågren has published several studies on the use of computer programs for evaluating L2 French education in classroom settings and is actively participating in research focused on improving assessments of foreign language competencies in Swedish schools, with a specific focus on oral language proficiency.
