Biography

Marc’s primary interest is making insights from the philosophy of technology fruitful in teaching about technology design and pedagogy. He reflects on the nature of technical artifacts, technological knowledge, and design processes in relation to technology and society, providing important clues for technology design that can be taught and learned. Given the intimate relationship between science and technology practice, teaching about technology design contributes to a deeper understanding of scientific concepts. Marc developed the Science Education research program at Delft based on these ideas. He authored a monograph on the use of philosophy in technology education titled 'Teaching About Technology' (Springer, 2016, 2nd edition) and serves as the editor-in-chief of the 'International Journal of Technology & Design Education' (Springer), as well as the series editor for 'International Technology Education Studies' (Brill/Sense). He also edited the 'Handbook of Technology Education' (Springer, 2018).
