Biography

Margaret McColl is a Senior Lecturer in Museum Heritage Education at the University of Glasgow and Programme Lead of the MSc Museum Education, which she developed in 2017. In 2019, she established an international consortium of academic and practitioner experts to innovate a new International Master of Education in Museums and Heritage (EDUMaH). The programme was awarded Erasmus funding in 2023, becoming an Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters. Her research interests include Art Education, the creative process in museum settings, and developing effective models for Teacher Education through partnerships. She supervises six MSc students in Museum Education and two PhD students, focusing on topics such as racial equality and cultural identity in museum narratives. Margaret has a long history of teaching in the Bachelor of Education programme and has held various leadership roles, including Programme Leader for multiple undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Her collaborative work with Glasgow Museums has resulted in major conferences and continued development in museum education provision.
