Biography

Marleen Gillebaart is an Associate Professor at Utrecht University in the Department of Social, Health and Organisational Psychology. She earned her PhD in social psychology from Amsterdam and later completed a postdoctoral fellowship in London. Her research primarily focuses on successful self-regulation and decision-making processes. She is particularly interested in how individuals can achieve long-term goals and the obstacles they face from temptations. Heading the Self-Regulation Lab, Gillebaart investigates key aspects of self-regulation and self-monitoring, along with the psychological foundations of nudges that aid people in making intended choices. She employs a mix of experimental, cross-sectional, and interventional research methodologies, complemented by self-reporting and behavioral experiential samples. Gillebaart supervises several PhD students as part of the Regio Deal Foodvalley project, which studies the impact of a healthy sustainable food environment. Additionally, she teaches Health Psychology at both Bachelor and Master's levels. In 2019, she became a member of the Utrecht Young Academy, a collaborative community for emerging talented scientists.
