Biography

Martha McComas is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. She received her Associate of Science in Dental Hygiene from Indiana University in 2002 and has over a decade of experience practicing clinical dental hygiene in a general periodontal practice. McComas completed her Bachelor of Arts in 2009 from Indiana University and obtained her Master of Science in Dental Hygiene from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio in 2012. McComas began her teaching career as a clinical instructor at Indiana University-Fort Wayne in 2007 and transitioned to a full-time position in 2012. In 2013, she moved to Michigan to join the Division of Dental Hygiene at the University of Michigan. Her teaching responsibilities primarily involve clinical education, focusing on periodontal instrumentation and foundational courses for dental hygiene students, including pain management techniques for dental hygienists. McComas’s research interests include the dental hygiene curriculum, assessment, critical thinking, and inter-professional collaboration, as well as cariology and the reduction of early childhood caries.
