Biography

Martha Ovando Villanueva is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Texas at Austin, where she has served for 31 years. She holds a B.A. in Bilingual Elementary Education, a master’s degree in Educational Administration from New Mexico Highlands University, and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Utah. She has been involved with the Institutional Review Board and the Graduate Assembly. The Martha N. Ovando Award was established by her department in recognition of outstanding student leadership. Her scholarly work focuses on instructional leadership and supervision processes. Ovando has worked as a consultant for universities in Latin America and is actively involved in community service, including her role on the board for St. Gabriel Catholic School. She is a proud mother and has extended her knowledge and expertise in educational leadership to various initiatives aimed at improving educational outcomes for underserved communities.
