Biography

Mary D. Curtis is a Visiting Lecturer in Marine Coastal Environmental Science at Texas A&M University Galveston. She earned her Doctorate in Geography from Texas State University in 2015, a Master of Science in Instructional Technology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 2004, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Texas A&M University in 1997. Curtis has a strong focus on improving geography education and contributions to the fields of STEM education and social studies. Her research includes a systematic review of evidence-based practices for students with learning disabilities and exploring trauma-informed leadership in education. With a professional background in both higher education and K-12 settings, she has been actively involved in various conferences and has published multiple scholarly articles in reputable journals. As a dedicated educator, she aims to foster inclusive and engaging learning environments for her students. Curtis has received several accolades, including the Southwest Educational Research Association's Early Career Award in 2024 and has been recognized as a nominee for the UT Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award in 2019.
