Biography

Matt R. Raven is a Professor in the Department of Community Sustainability at Michigan State University. He holds a B.S. in Plant Science (Agronomy Range Science) from the University of California at Davis, a Master’s in Agricultural Education from Kansas State University, and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Education from Ohio State University. Prior to his current role, he served as faculty at Montana State University and Mississippi State University, and worked as a program evaluator for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. His research interests include teaching and learning in higher education, the diffusion and adoption of innovations in agriculture, and community food systems with a focus on the connection between healthy soils, healthy food, healthy people, and healthy communities. Dr. Raven also coordinates the Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resource pre-service teacher program and leads efforts at the Upper Peninsula Research Extension Center (UPREC) in Chatham, Michigan, where he is responsible for community food systems initiatives.
