Matthew Nusnbaum joined the Biological Sciences Neuroscience faculty at the Georgia Institute of Technology in August 2023. He earned his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Georgia State University, where he studied the mechanisms of chemical defenses acting on predator olfactory and gustatory systems. Before arriving at Georgia Tech, Matthew taught in the Biology Department at Georgia State for 10 years, focusing on active learning and high-impact educational practices in program development. At Georgia Tech, he teaches in the Neuroscience Undergraduate Program, contributing to introductory neuroscience courses, human neuroanatomy, and upper-level elective neuroscience courses, and directs an introductory neuroscience lab. He also serves as the Associate Director of the Undergraduate Neuroscience Program, an interdisciplinary undergraduate major and minor in neuroscience. His current research interests include the impact of active learning and high-impact practices on students' learning, sense of belonging, retention, and progression in STEM fields.
