Michael graduated from McGill in 2004 with a Bachelor of Education and began teaching Physical Education at the Secondary school level. In 2006, he took a leave from teaching to become a coach for the National Canoe Kayak team, where he coached a bronze medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He continues to act as a coach course facilitator and mentor for young coaches entering the sport. After the Olympics, Michael returned to teaching, working at both Elementary and Secondary levels for 15 years. He focused on developing quality Physical Education programs, implementing new initiatives in schools, and creating an extensive Outdoor Education program. In 2018, he pursued a Master's in Educational Administration Leadership and took on the role of Vice-Principal in Elementary and Secondary schools for three years. At McGill, Michael works with pre-service Physical Education teachers, helping guide and mentor them as they move into the field.
