Biography

Michelle Kwok's academic interests lie at the intersections of teacher education and literacy instruction. She is passionate about empowering teachers to utilize literacy instruction as a means of providing equitable education opportunities. Currently, she leads projects that explore preservice teachers' beliefs about literacy and its connection to equitable instruction, as well as the diverse text choices and identities involved. Michelle is also investigating the linguistic strategies used in teaching mathematics through word problems. She has earned her Ph.D. in Educational Studies, with a focus on Literacy, Language, and Culture from the University of Michigan in 2016, and holds a Master's degree in the same field from the same institution. Her teaching includes courses on early childhood and adolescent education, assessment of reading instruction, and the foundations of education in a multicultural society.
