Dr. Michelle Pidgeon

Biography

Michelle Pidgeon is a Professor in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University and serves as the Associate Director of the Centre for the Study of Educational Leadership and Policy. Her research focuses on higher education and Indigeneity, specifically examining the intersections of student affairs, services, recruitment, retention, and Indigenous peoples in their pursuit of success in post-secondary education. She is passionate about enhancing understanding of Indigenous research processes and the ethical protocols involved, ensuring that her work empowers Indigenous success while addressing the responsibilities of universities and colleges in relation to Indigenous higher education policies and practices. Theoretical influences in her work include Indigenous theory, social reproduction theory, and retention theories, all contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the barriers and support systems crucial for Indigenous student persistence and achievement.
