Dr. Mike Jess

Biography

Mike Jess is a Senior Lecturer in Physical Education at the University of Edinburgh, where he specializes in the intersection of complexity thinking and curriculum development within teacher education. His work prominently features the 'Physical Education Life' (PEL) Project, aimed at transforming school physical education to foster lifelong physical activity among children and young people. Mike is a recognized leader in the field, contributing to projects such as the International Advisory Board for the Renovation General Education Project in Vietnam and the Pre-Service Teacher Reform Project in Myanmar. With a rich background in both primary and secondary education across Scotland and Kuwait, he has also lectured in England and the United States. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh and has consistently focused his research on the complexities of teaching practice and professional learning in physical education. Mike is a member of the Association for Physical Education (afPE) and remains actively engaged in national and international conferences, presenting extensively on topics related to curriculum, pedagogy, and the professional development of educators.
